Quick Answer: “OdoBan carpet cleaner” means one of two products. For pet accidents and spot stains, buy OdoBan Pet Oxy Stain Remover (32 fl oz, $5.23 at Walmart on November 5, 2026), a hydrogen peroxide spray that Consumer Reports named its Top Pick in May 2026 after testing nine pet stain and odor cleaners on real dog urine. For a carpet machine, buy OdoBan 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner ($10.94 a gallon at Walmart), a concentrate that makes up to 64 gallons of solution at its 2 oz-per-gallon extraction strength. The famous eucalyptus OdoBan concentrate is a deodorizer and hard-surface disinfectant: its label treats carpet as a spray-on odor job, not something to pour into a machine.

“OdoBan carpet cleaner” gets searched about 2,400 times a month, and the confusion behind it is understandable. Most people know OdoBan as the gallon jug of eucalyptus-scented disinfectant at Sam’s Club, and plenty of online advice says to pour it into a carpet cleaner. OdoBan itself sells a separate machine formula for that job, plus a stain spray that just won a major independent test. This guide sorts the lineup, prices it at the retailers that sell it, explains what the labels actually say, and tells you which bottle to buy. It is the same brand-without-a-machine pattern as Resolve, Woolite, and Zep, with one difference: OdoBan’s best carpet product is a five-dollar spray.

OdoBan carpet cleaner, by the numbers

Who makes OdoBan

OdoBan is made by Clean Control Corporation, an independently owned manufacturer in Warner Robins, Georgia. According to OdoBan’s company history, founder Steve Davison ran a janitorial business serving nursing homes in middle Georgia, found the cleaning products his crews used hard to handle, and made the first batch of OdoBan in Warner Robins. Sam’s Club agreed to carry it around 1990, OdoBan was in Sam’s Club stores nationwide by 1995, and Davison sold the janitorial business to focus on Clean Control. That Sam’s Club history is why the gallon jug is the product most people picture.

Two facts from that history matter to a carpet shopper. First, OdoBan began as a disinfectant and odor eliminator, not a carpet shampoo, and the original formula is still labeled that way. Second, Clean Control later developed a dedicated carpet formula: it holds US Patent 8,375,494, “Cleaning compositions containing a corrosion inhibitor,” granted on February 19, 2013, which describes compositions for removing soil from carpets and upholstery without corroding the metal alloys used in aircraft. OdoBan cites that patent on its 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner page. OdoBan’s professional line also sells a 3-in-1 carpet cleaner under its Earth Choice label.

Walmart.com, Target, and Sam’s Club prices were checked on their product pages on November 5, 2026; every Walmart.com price above is for an item sold and shipped by Walmart. Home Depot blocked our checks, so its prices come from the retailer widget on OdoBan’s own product pages, checked the same day. Walmart’s prices moved a little between pages that day: OdoBan’s widget showed Pet Oxy at $5.97 at Walmart, while Walmart’s own product page said $5.23. Skip the Target listings for Pet Oxy and 3-in-1: both were third-party sellers asking $26.99 for a single 32 oz bottle and $33.98 for a single gallon. OdoBan’s carpet application page lists four products: Pet Oxy, the 3-in-1, and two scents of OdoFresh powder. The original concentrate is not on that list, even though it is the OdoBan most people try on carpet first.

What independent tests found

Consumer Reports (May 28, 2026). CR tested nine pet stain and odor cleaners on carpet samples stained with real dog urine and on fabric stained with onion juice, following each bottle’s directions and contact time. The article, “The Best Spray for Tackling Pet Stains and Odors Is Not an Enzyme Cleaner” by Jennifer Ford, named OdoBan Pet Oxy Stain Remover its Top Pick. CR says it “delivered the fastest visible results of all the products, working immediately upon contact,” that the stains “disappeared quickly,” and that odors were no longer detectable after treatment. CR lists its odor removal method as oxidation, its contact time as none, and its cost as 22 cents an ounce, and it notes a SkinSafe score of 100. The Runner-Up was Skout’s Honor Urine Destroyer and the Honorable Mention was Nature’s Miracle, the only enzyme cleaner in the top three.

Two caveats from the same report. In its Skout’s Honor write-up, CR says “OdoBan was better at masking the scent of dog urine,” so read the odor result as CR’s sniff judgment rather than proof that every trace of urine is gone. And CR’s general warning about oxidizers applies: because they contain ingredients like hydrogen peroxide, they “aren’t always safe for all surfaces.”

TURI hazard screening. The Toxics Use Reduction Institute at UMass Lowell keeps P2OASys hazard assessments of cleaning products. This is a hazard screen based on each product’s safety data sheet, not a cleaning-performance test. TURI’s entry for OdoBan 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner (F602), based on a 2019 safety data sheet, lists 5% tetrasodium glutamate diacetate (a biodegradable chelating agent), 2% sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (a mild surfactant), and 1% isopropyl alcohol, with a pH of 8.5 to 9.5. Its overall score is 4.30, against 5.10 for the original OdoBan concentrate. TURI’s entry and several retailer listings also describe the 3-in-1 as EPA Safer Choice certified, but it did not appear on EPA’s own Safer Choice product list when we searched it on November 5, 2026, so we don’t count that certification.

We found no public cleaning-performance test of the 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner. OdoBan’s claims that it “dries 75% faster than traditional carpet cleaners” and does not promote resoiling are the maker’s own and are not independently verified.

1. OdoBan Pet Oxy Stain Remover — Best OdoBan for Carpet Stains

OdoBan Pet Oxy Stain Remover, No Added Fragrance (32 fl oz)

Best overall · $5.23 at Walmart.com, $5.98 at Home Depot · hydrogen peroxide spray
  • Consumer Reports' Top Pick for pet stains and odors in May 2026, with the fastest visible results of the nine cleaners CR tested and no contact time.
  • OdoBan describes it as an oxygen-activated, hydrogen peroxide-based formula for urine, feces, vomit, blood, wine, dirt, and grass, with polymer technology that leaves no sticky residue.
  • Directions: spray directly on the stain, blot immediately, repeat as needed, and vacuum once dry. For colorfast, washable carpets, fabrics, upholstery, and laundry only, so test a hidden spot and let it dry first.
  • At $5.23 for 32 fl oz, it costs about 16 cents an ounce, less than Woolite INSTAclean Pet ($5.99 for 22 fl oz at Target, 27 cents) and Resolve Pet Stain Urine Destroyer ($10.49 for 32 fl oz at Target, 33 cents).

This is the OdoBan to buy if you only buy one. It has the strongest independent result of any product in the brand, it costs about five dollars, and it does the job most people search “OdoBan carpet” for: a pet accident on a rug. It is a spot product, though. A puddle that has soaked into the pad needs extraction first, then treatment, which our best carpet cleaner for dog urine guide walks through. For old spots that keep smelling on humid days, our best enzyme carpet cleaner guide explains when a slow enzyme left on for hours is the better tool.

2. OdoBan 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner — Best OdoBan Machine Formula

OdoBan 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner, No Added Fragrance (1 gallon concentrate)

Best machine formula · $10.94 at Walmart.com, $12.98 at Home Depot, $42.98 for 4 gallons at Sam's Club · makes up to 64 gallons
  • OdoBan sells it as three products in one: a traffic-lane pretreatment (for a sprayer or bonnet), a spot remover, and an extraction cleaner, each made by mixing the concentrate with water at a different strength.
  • No defoamer or extra rinse agent needed, according to OdoBan, and "safe for use in deep cleaning machines."
  • Listed as WoolSafe approved by OdoBan; no added fragrance, dyes, or phosphorus. OdoBan's FAQ says not to use hot water, because the formula works best cold.
  • Ingredients per its 2019 safety data sheet (via TURI): a GLDA chelating agent, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, and a little isopropyl alcohol, at pH 8.5 to 9.5.

This is the right OdoBan for a Bissell, Hoover, or rental machine, and on a cost-per-gallon-of-solution basis it undercuts the branded machine formulas we have priced. Bissell’s own 2X formula cost $18.99 for 60 oz at Target in October, and Woolite’s Pet + Oxy 2X was $16.99 for 60 oz in early November; a single gallon of OdoBan 3-in-1 is $10.94 and makes up to 64 gallons at the extraction strength. OdoBan gives three dilutions, one per job:

JobOdoBan 3-in-1 per gallon of waterRatioDwell time
Traffic-lane prespray or bonnet cleaning8 oz1:165 minutes
Spot remover (spray bottle)4 oz1:325 minutes
Extraction (machine tank)2 oz1:64Not applicable

Dilutions are from OdoBan’s product page directions, which also say to mix fresh solution daily and test colorfastness first. The cold-water instruction matters if your machine has a heater or you usually fill the tank from the hot tap: fill it with cool water instead. The trade-off is evidence. There is no published lab test of this formula’s cleaning performance, so its standing rests on its label, its WoolSafe listing, and its price. 3. Original OdoBan Concentrate — Use It for Odor After Cleaning, Not as the Cleaner

OdoBan Odor Eliminator and Disinfectant Concentrate (1 gallon, Eucalyptus and other scents)

Odor follow-up · $9.96 a gallon at Walmart.com, $9.99 at Target · EPA Reg. No. 66243-2 · one gallon makes up to 32 gallons
  • Active ingredient: 2.0% alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, a quaternary ammonium compound, per the EPA-registered label.
  • Carpet directions on the label: 8 oz per gallon of water (1:15) "eliminates odors associated with urine, vomit, smoke and mildew. Reapply after cleaning for freshening effects. Allow to dry."
  • For pet urine, feces, and vomit on carpet: 32 oz per gallon (1:3), clean the area first, spray, test for colorfastness, leave 10 minutes, blot, and let dry.
  • The sanitizing and disinfecting claims (99.99% of germs in 60 seconds) apply to hard, nonporous surfaces. On carpet, OdoBan describes it as an odor eliminator.

The original jug is a good deodorizer and a poor substitute for carpet shampoo. Its label treats carpet as a spray-and-dry odor job, done after cleaning, and the label we read gives no direction for pouring it into an extractor’s tank. There is also a chemistry reason to keep it out of the machine’s mix: quaternary ammonium compounds are cationic, while carpet shampoos typically rely on anionic surfactants, and the two tend to work against each other. If a room still smells after a machine clean, mist the dry carpet with OdoBan at the label’s carpet strength and let it air-dry. Our best carpet deodorizer powder guide covers the dry alternative.

4. OdoBan OdoFresh Carpet Freshener Powder — For Between Cleans

OdoBan OdoFresh Carpet Freshener Powder (Fresh Linen or Tropical)

Between-cleans odor · $8.28 for 36 oz at Walmart.com · zeolite-based
  • Made with volcanic zeolite, which OdoBan says traps and neutralizes odors, working with sodium sulfate and sodium bicarbonate.
  • Sprinkle on dry carpet, rugs, upholstery, or car interiors, wait 3 to 5 minutes (15 for stronger odors), then vacuum, per OdoBan's directions. Not for wet or damp areas.
  • Scented, so it is a freshener; it will not reach urine that has soaked into the pad.

Use the powder for the musty or doggy smell of a carpet that is otherwise clean, not for a fresh accident. Powders sit on the surface and come up with the vacuum, so they do nothing for a stain or for the source of a urine smell under the pile.

Can you put OdoBan in a carpet cleaner?

This is the most common OdoBan carpet question, and the answer depends on the bottle.

OdoBan productIn the machine's tank? What OdoBan or the label saysBetter way to use it
3-in-1 Carpet CleanerYes"Safe for use in deep cleaning machines"; no defoamer or rinse agent needed2 oz per gallon of cool water

Machine makers add one more reason for caution. Bissell, Hoover, and Rug Doctor all tie their instructions to low-foam extraction formulas, and some warranty terms reference their own solutions. A formula sold for extraction machines, like the 3-in-1, is the safe choice. For a full rundown of what belongs in the tank, see our best carpet cleaner solution guide.

OdoBan and Nature’s Miracle prices are from November 5, 2026. Prices marked with an earlier date come from our checks for the Woolite, Resolve, and enzyme cleaner guides. How to use OdoBan on carpet

  1. Blot first, then spray. Lift as much of a fresh accident as you can with a white towel. Then spray Pet Oxy directly on the stain and blot immediately, as its directions say; repeat until no more color transfers to the towel. Blot, don’t scrub.
  2. Test a hidden spot. OdoBan limits Pet Oxy to colorfast, washable surfaces, and the original concentrate’s label asks you to test for colorfastness on carpet. Let the test spot dry before judging it.
  3. Extract anything that reached the pad. For a puddle, run a carpet cleaner with 3-in-1 at the extraction strength (2 oz per gallon of cool water), or plain water, after the spot treatment. A spray alone will not reach urine in the padding.
  4. Put only the 3-in-1 in the tank. Keep Pet Oxy, the original concentrate, and the powder out of the machine.
  5. Deodorize last. If a smell lingers after the carpet dries, mist it with the original OdoBan at the label’s carpet strength (8 oz per gallon) and let it air-dry. Our carpet drying time guide covers how to speed drying safely.
  6. Never mix chemistries. Don’t combine a peroxide spray with bleach or other cleaners, and don’t stack a quaternary disinfectant on top of an enzyme treatment you just applied. Keep pets and children off treated areas until they are dry.

The bottom line

OdoBan’s best carpet product is not the jug it is famous for. Buy OdoBan Pet Oxy Stain Remover ($5.23 for 32 fl oz at Walmart.com) for pet accidents and spot stains: it was Consumer Reports’ Top Pick of nine pet stain and odor cleaners in May 2026, working on contact with no dwell time. Buy OdoBan 3-in-1 Carpet Cleaner ($10.94 a gallon) if you own a carpet machine: at 2 oz per gallon of cool water a gallon makes up to 64 gallons, OdoBan lists it as WoolSafe approved, and it costs less per gallon of solution than the branded machine formulas we have priced, though no lab has published a cleaning test of it. Keep the original OdoBan concentrate for what its label says it does on carpet: deodorizing after cleaning. For a whole-room deep clean, the machine matters more than the bottle, so start with our best carpet cleaner guide.
